Job Description

A position as a Production Quality Assurance Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence & Space in Madrid.

The successful candidate will join the Quality team within Space System area. In your role Production Quality Assurance, you will:

Lead and assure quality excellence of processes & products for production in Barajas

Responsible for ensuring that the following are managed according to quality requirements and procedures:

  • Composite manufacturing
  • Space Equipment Assembly
  • Satellite and subsystems Integration

Quality Conformance Manager of Space Production For boosting and driving improvements both transversally and upstream the industrial organization of the Space Programs.

Lead Quality improvement projects and control, lead and launch initiatives to improve de Cost of Non Quality and Cost of Quality within Space Spain.

As the customers’/authorities’ single point of contact for Quality, you will ensure the communication and implementation of their requirements (including safety and reliability) throughout the company’s operational processes (develop, fulfil, support and source).

You will also ensure that all applicable activities along the product lifecycle (engineering and operations) are defined, planned and implemented (from the offer to the end of the product life-cycle including in-service phase if applicable). You will do this in line with the defined business management processes to provide customers/authorities with the required degree of quality on time and on cost. To do so, you will collect, analyze, visualize and interpret the relevant product and/or in-service performance data using all available means (manual and automatic) to identify and prevent early deviations and to take effective action by means of lessons learnt consideration and of root cause analysis in order to mitigate and resolve any quality issues.

You will as well participate or organize the deployment of preventive techniques in case of baseline changes (e.g. product modifications, manufacturing process changes, etc.). You will be responsible for monitoring and assessing the quality of project process execution.

You will as well actively support the implementation of Program Excellence methodology (e.g. APQP) and/or any other applicable procedures/processes and you will ensure adequate corrective actions are triggered when deviations to proper implementation occur.

Where deviations occur, you will be involved in the handling of the non- conformance and waiver treatment including analysis of the deviations, monitoring of the corrective and preventive actions, as well as contributing to the improvement of the quality standards.

You will obtain the necessary evidence that the processes and activities comply with customer requirements.

You will devise, negotiate and implement the product assurance plan throughout the duration of the programme/project.

You will implement the internal phase review process and consolidate the technical risk register and monitor the associated risk mitigation actions’ implementation.

You will also attest the conformity of the product with regards to contractual requirements and legal rules, and monitor the conformity & attestation status. Finally, you will coordinate the resolution of customer Quality issues and provide feedback to avoid any future reoccurrence.

If authorized, you will support the company’s certifications and interfaces with external quality authorities (ISO, IAQG, EASA, ECSS, etc.).


Write a Control plan and continuously maintain it in accordance with project requirements. Lead PFMEA with MFT to define the right level of inspection or checks. Elaborate the Key Inspection Plan and support the Mandatory Inspection Plan. Request additional inspections when needed, such as those in response to a technical warning notice.

Chair internal Operational gates and ensure that all related actions are implemented.

Ensure that all the necessary inputs are delivered OQOT for Quality Gates reviews :

Manufacturing Readiness Review,

Integration Readiness Review,

Test Readiness Review & Test Readiness Board,

Delivery Review Board,

Pre-Shipment Review & Shipment Readiness Review…

Deliver quality briefs with the area manager in the shop floor to raise awareness to operators on lessons learned and good practice.

Prepare the incoming inspection plan/checklist.

Review AIT work instructions for technical integrity, regarding product quality requirements including inspection, verification points and configuration status.

Manage all NCRs within the defined scope in Production through PPS approach. Confirm non-conformances and ensure containment & correction is defined and implemented. Chair Internal Review Board (IRB) and set functional team for the elimination of the root cause.

Ensure that corrective and preventive actions are defined. Organize and chair PPS reviews.

Proactively promote and conduct risk analyses (with PFMEA method), and participate in the implementation and follow-up of preventive actions.

Elaborate process confirmation, audit plans and perform them.

Ensure that lessons learned & near miss actions are implemented.

Participate in defining the quality policy in production and managing quality documents and processes.

Support the elaboration and the efficiency of performance dialogue/SQCDP in the working area (schedule, daily work to achieve, top priorities, KPIs, achievements…)

Provide reports as required by functional and project management.

Provide monthly report of Quality Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Define action plan for the implementation of the Customer pillar of the OES – the Operation Excellence System


We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:

Educated to degree level (or equivalent): Aerospace/Industrial/Physics or similar

More than 3 years of experience in Manufacturing Operations

More than 3 years of experience in Quality

Previous experience in Space Systems will be considered

Knowledge of APQP o Advanced Product Quality Planning

Negotiation level of English and Spanish
